School Meals

Our school menus are designed, following healthy guidelines, to provide a varied and nutritional meal to our children each day.   We would like to welcome Aspens as our new catering company, who are working with our wonderful cooks, to bring a fresh new look to our school meals.

Aspens do not intentionally use any products that contain nuts or nut bi-products.

Aspens tell us:

“We want everyone who eats with us to look forward to their mealtimes, love what they have to eat and then have the energy for everything else that the day has to offer.  We don’t just provide food, we play our part to educate children and raise awareness about nutrition, food and where it comes from, so that they can make informed and mindful choices.  Our actions can impact the environment, so we are dedicated to taking measures to reduce our footprint.  To find out more click Our Planet – Here .”

Our schools meals:

  • have a three-menu cycle, allowing children to become familiar with the food served;
  • are changed twice a year to reflect the seasons; and
  • are written in consultation with pupils and cooks.

All payments for school lunches must be paid through the My Child At School (MCAS) system which ensures we keep our cash handling down to a bare minimum.

Children in Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 are entitled to a universal free school meal.  Lunches for children in Preschool are charged at £2.30 per child, per day and lunches for children in Year 3 up to Year 6 are charged at a rate of £2.75 per child, per day.

If you feel you may be entitled to Free School Meals, regardless of  which year your child is in, please click here for further information including details on how to apply.

Our cooks work really hard to bring you amazing quality food every day and at Eppleby Forcett we have 100% uptake on school meals.  We encourage children at both of our schools to enjoy a school lunch as research has shown that a healthy, nutritious school meal can provide your child with the energy required to concentrate in class and cope with the demands of the day.  It also helps to develop their social skills and long-term good eating habits.

Cool Milk

Many children in school are enjoying milk through the cool milk programme, the latest government initiative to ensure that children increase their calcium intake.

All children under the age of 5 are entitled to free school milk.  In the week that your child turns 5 they will no longer be eligible for free school milk but you can register and pay via the CoolMilk website.

Fruit

Preschool, Reception and KS1 children receive a piece of fruit or vegetable every day.  Children in KS2 are welcome to bring in a piece of fruit or vegetable to eat at playtime.
